EUGENE, Ore. - A driver cited for drunk driving after he crashed his car and told police he was alone in the vehicle now faces a charge of manslaughter after investigators found the body of a former University of Oregon football player at the scene and determined the man had been a passenger in the car at the time of the crash.

Eugene Police arrested 22-year-old Pedro Chavarin Jr. at 4 p.m. Tuesday on one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree in the death of 21-year-old Fotu Tuli Leiato.

Leiato played linebacker for the Ducks before being released from the team this spring.

Police said Chavarin crashed his car early Friday while driving drunk. He told investigators he was alone in the car, police said.

A woman walking her dog later in the day found Leiato's body in the bushes nearby. Police later determined Leiato had been a passenger in Chavarin's car at the time of the crash.
