Couple walking cross country for charity gives birth to newborn before reaching Oregon
JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- A Utah couple has made it their mission to walk across America with their destination here in Oregon.
The cross-country journey started for Amanda Autrey and Kolton Rackham in Georgia.
They are about 14 months and 3,000 miles into their walk with their final destination being Newport.
The couple, originally from Utah, started walking for self discovery and adventure. They also wanted to raise awareness for the Make a Wish Foundation and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Family and friends have visited them along the way.
While walking through Iowa, Amanda discovered she was pregnant.
Two months ago, she gave birth to their baby boy, Onyx, in Idaho.
“He showed up 12 miles before the Oregon border, between Idaho and Oregon, and it just seemed like he showed up to do our last state with us,” says Autrey.
Autrey says the pregnancy didn’t stop them from reaching their goal.
The couple's journey is coming to an end Monday, July 23, in Newport.
