COOS COUNTY, Ore. - The Coos County Sheriff's Office is forming a specialized unit for safety and security of the proposed Jordan Cove LNG Project.

The unit will be made up of senior deputies and new hires. It will be funded by the Jordan Cove LNG Project to lower people's concerns about potential risks at the natural gas site.

"Natural gas has been talked about quite a bit," said Deputy Doug Strain, with the Coos County Sheriff's Office. "Tankers have been talked about quite a bit over in the middle East as a state of terrorist target. It's our job to make sure that that doesn't happen in Coos Bay."

The sheriff says the complete process of hiring the new services unity, which will take a few years.
