COBURG, Ore. - Christmas came early for firefighters with the Coburg Rural Fire District, where Captain Rick McPherson and his crew just returned from Southern California battling the fires in Santa Rosa, when they found a present waiting at the station for them.

A gift sent to them from the families in a neighborhood they had protected and saved from the wildfires. The crew waited to open the present until Thursday night at the annual Christmas Party.

"We go down there just to do our job, but it's so nice to come home and see the appreciation that we receive from these people," said Captain McPherson. "And I've seen an out-pouring from the communities that we got to, and it's really nice."

Inside the care package was a personal card to the crew, wine and other items the neighborhood called favorites the the Santa Rosa area.
