EUGENE, Ore. - After six rounds of chemo and a double mastectomy, Kelly Barton's once active runner's life turned upside down.

"I mean I am very active, and I normally have a lot of energy, and so not having the energy to get up and go for a run or do the things that i normally enjoy doing, that was challenging," she said. "When I was diagnosed my doctor said you don't have control over the next two years of your life, and that was really hard for me because I am kind of a control freak."

Aside from losing control of her passions in life, she lost control a lot more.

"There are so many expenses when you have cancer, not just the medical bills, but you know time off of work, and life goes on, you still have to make your mortgage payment, and pay your car payment," she said.

This is where Oregon Cancer Foundation steps in to provide financial assistance to cancer patients, making sure they won't have to decide between rent and treatment.

Fundraisers like the Bras for Cause help the foundation make that happen. All of the money stays local, assisting patients.
