Avalanches close Highway 20 near Santiam Pass summit

SISTERS, Ore. – Oregon State Police closed Highway 20 near Hoodoo Ski Area after two avalanches blocked the roadway.

Police say the first avalanche occurred at 2:17 p.m. The second avalanche occurred right after.

They don’t know when Highway 20 will reopen.

Several cars were stuck in the snow, but no one was injured in the avalanches. They ask drivers to avoid the area.

The avalanches occurred at milepost 79, 2 miles west of the Santiam Pass summit.
