Authorities investigate following officer-involved shooting in Cottage Grove
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- A man is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning in Cottage Grove.
On Wednesday, July 11, shortly before midnight, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dispute and shots fired at the 78600 block of Cedar Park Road in Cottage Grove.
Police say initial information indicates that the location was a commercial marijuana facility.
Deputies responded and attempted to locate the male suspect on the large parcel of land but were unable to find him.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was called out to assist shortly after 1 a.m.
Deputies searched the area and used a loudspeaker to call into the building on the property where it was believed he was.
Around 3:45 a.m., the suspect exited the building and engaged deputies with a firearm.
Two deputies discharged their weapons and struck the suspect, police said, who was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time, authorities said.
"The use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer in Lane County is investigated by the Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team," LCSO said. "At this time, there have not been any injuries reported by the involved deputies. The identity of the deputies involved is not being released at the time. Per Senate Bill 111, both deputies have been placed on Administrative Leave during the initial investigation."
