ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has concluded its investigation into a shooting Wednesday morning on Happy Valley Road in Roseburg.

The driver of the pickup, 29-year-old Adam Smith of Roseburg, contacted law enforcement on the afternoon of October 4. Smith was uninjured, police said, and was cooperative with law enforcement.

"After a thorough investigation, it was determined that 50-year-old Mike Sanderson and his 18 year-old son, Dillen Sanderson, both of Roseburg, violated the law when they fired their weapons at Mr. Smith and his vehicle," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Mike Sanderson was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, and first degree attempted assault. Dillen Sanderson was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon and first degree attempted assault.

Both were lodged at the Douglas County Jail.

Wednesday morning, police responded to the 600 block of Happy Valley where they said the elder Sanderson had grabbed a gun before going outside to check on a vehicle he heard crash in his front yard.

At that point, they said his son also left the house and fired several shots at the vehicle. That’s when Smith, the pickup’s driver, fled the scene.

A neighbor described hearing the gunshots.

"I was on the computer when I heard the shots and I knew they were really close so I just turned my back light on and I looked around and I didn't see anything, but I just didn't want to come out," said neighbor Emilio Melendez.

Deputies later found the pickup, with bullet holes, at the Poteet Boat Ramp on Parkhurst Court.
