KLCC celebrating 50 years on the air at annual Brewfest
EUGENE, Ore. - Eugene’s local NPR affiliate KLCC has been on the airwaves for 50 years.
That’s half a century broadcasting local news, NPR content and music shows with local DJ’s.
The station will celebrate that milestone this weekend at its annual fundraiser, the KLCC Brewfest.
Volunteers and brewers spent Friday getting the Lane Events Center ready for the event.
Brewfest features more than 80 breweries, live entertainment, music, and a record/CD sale.
Also on tap: nine special brews, concocted by local breweries in honor of the station’s anniversary.
Since 50 years is considered the “golden” anniversary, the beers are following suit.
One of those is the Golden Hart Saison.
"For this one we added golden beets and marigold petals," said Perry Ames from Viking Braggot. “The beets give it an earthiness, the marigold petals give it a nice floral flavor that goes nicely with the Belgian yeast.”
Brewfest is 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday night and from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
Only people 21 and over can get inside.
It’s easy to go without drinking and driving.
LTD is offering free bus service to and from the event, and designated drivers get in at a discount.
All proceeds from Brewfest go to support KLCC.
