Cooking the Books - Book Club

Second Friday of Every Month | 11:30 AM-12:30 PM

Each month will feature a food theme. Participants can check out a cookbook that fits the theme, try a few recipes, and prepare their favorite dish for the meeting. During the gathering participants will discuss the cookbook they used and taste everyone's creation.

Fiddle Lessons

First & Third Wednesday Every Month

The music room at Harbor Lights Middle School has been generously donated to use for instruction.A $5.00 donation to the OOTFA Scholarship Fund is suggested per lesson, and membership in the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers in encouraged which allows many musical opportunities. Loaner fiddles are also available to members. Help us keep the “Old Time” music going and those Old Time Fiddlers Fiddling!The Oregon Old Time Fiddlers Association is a non-profit organization which was founded in 1964 with the sole purpose of promoting, preserving and perpetuating old time music. It is with that intent and focus that the District 5 chapter of OOTFA is offering fiddle lessons.

COASST Beached Bird Training

April 29 & 30 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM | $20 refundable deposit

Join the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) and help make a difference for the environment! COASST participants collect data on beach-cast carcasses of marine birds on a monthly basis to establish baseline patterns of bird mortality on North Pacific beaches. Data collected helps address important marine conservation issues and protect marine resources. Beach surveys are best conducted in groups of 2 of more - please come with a survey partner in mind or plan to join a team during training. The training event is free and we ask for a $20 refundable deposit to take home survey supplies. To reserve a training spot, please contact COASST at coasst@uw.edu or by calling (206) 221 - 6893.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care. Anyone can take the 8-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid course, but it is ideally designed for adults who work with young people, ages 12-18 teachers, coaches, leaders of faith communities, public safety personnel, and other caring citizens.
