Historic Liberty Theatre Fundraiser

LTOB’s Little Ole Opry on the Bay will present Directors Shirley Kintner and Becky Engle most popular acts from the 2017 Opry series as well as some crowd favorites from previous seasons to the Egyptian Theater. According to Director Shirley Kintner, the 2016 fundraiser at the Egyptian Theater was a big success and this August 13th finale for the 36th season of Little Ole Opry on the Bay will be a perfect way for our community to come out and support the Liberty Theatre Restoration Project and to celebrate the talent of local singers and musicians.
The Liberty Theatre, home of Little Theatre on the Bay, is pleased to announce it will be the recipients of proceeds from an Opry Band and Performers Show at the Egyptian Theater, in Coos Bay. These funds will support the Liberty Theatre Restoration Project, including upgrades to the lobby and concession area. This next phase will enhance the recently completed Phase 2 that included construction of the 1364-square foot south end of the first floor expansion, which includes ADA restrooms, a family room with baby nursing area.
Tickets can be purchased for $15 and are available by calling or visiting the Liberty Theatre Box Office, online or at the door one hour before show time.

Oregon Old Time Fiddlers: "Fiddle at the Beach" Jamboree

Acoustic jams will be held all day and each evening there will be a stage show beginning with a "Fiddle Jamboree"? at 6:00 P.M. Friday night is contest night. This years theme will be Celestial Songs in honor of our upcoming Solar Eclipse, so dress accordingly. A Gospel Show will be featured on stage Sunday morning at 9:00 A.M. which will close the show around 10:30. Admission is Free though donations are greatly appreciated. All are welcome to attend. So put on those Cowboy boots and hat and come enjoy a wide variety of Old Time Music.

35th Annual Blackberry Arts Festival

This year the Blackberry Arts Festival includes several new events on Sunday, August 27th. The Coos Bay Downtown Association and Northwest Natural Gas invite all foodies, chefs, and self-proclaimed best cooks to enter their favorite blackberry recipe in the “It’s All Berry Good” Recipe Contest. Recipes must be received by the CBDA (320 Central Ave, Suite 410, Coos Bay, OR 97420) by August 5th to participate. Semi-finalists will be selected to present their finished recipe during the Farmers Market on August 23rd. The top two finalists will present their dish during the Blackberry Arts Festival on August 27th, where a winner will be announced.
The Coos Bay Downtown Association and Too Sweet Photography invite all children ages 0 to 5 to participate in the first annual “Berry Best Dressed Contest and Parade.” Registration and judging begin Sunday, August 27th at 12:00pm. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers for best use of the blackberry theme.
Coos Bay Toyota and iHeartRadio are partnering to bring an exciting onsite art project to the Blackberry Arts Festival. Bring your creativity to the festival and help decorate a car!

2017 Prefontain Memorial Run

The run held in conjunction with the Bay Area Fun Festival, Coos Bay’s largest annual community celebration.
This year’s Prefontaine Run has been designated as the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Oregon State Championship 10K race. RRCA Championship medals will be presented to the top overall masters (40-49), grandmaster (50-59) and senior grandmaster (60 & over) male and female winners.
A stand-alone 5K high school cross-country team competition will start at 9:45 AM. Participating teams last year included Arcata, CA, Brookings-Harbor, Cascade Christian, Douglas, Grants Pass, Henley, Hidden Valley, Marshfield, Medera CA, North Bend, Reedsport, St. Mary’s, Sutherlin & Toledo.
Awards for the open 10K Pre Run will be given in five-year age groups. First through third place finishers in each division will receive awards. The awards ceremony for both races will be held adjacent to the finish line on the Prefontaine Track at Pirate Stadium.
The entry fee is $30.00 if made prior to September 13th, and $40.00 thereafter. High School team competitors must register on athletic.net and receive a discounted registration fee. All race entrants will received a T-shirt especially designed to commemorate the Pre Run. On-line registration is encouraged by logging on to the Pre Run website at www.prefontainerun.com. Registration forms are available at the Coos Bay Visitor Information Center, Farr’s True Value Hardware and Nasburg Huggins Insurance in Coos Bay.

Throughout the summer: Ranger programs most days at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area and Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, with longer programs and guided hikes at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays (plus 2pm & 3pm at the Cape). Most Saturdays (except Aug. 19), rangers will be at the Oregon Dunes Siltcoos Staging Area and will lead guided hikes on the Wax Myrtle Trail. Junior ranger programs for kids Friday and Saturday evenings (except Aug. 18 – 19) at campgrounds around the Oregon Dunes. Programs are from 5:30pm – 7:00pm and alternate between Forest Service and State Park campgrounds. Call Cape Perpetua visitor center for schedule.
These events are free, but a Northwest Forest Pass, Oregon Coast Passport, federal recreation pass, or $5 day-use fee is required within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and at some trailheads and day use sites.
