State police seek witnesses in Hwy 20 crash

SWEET HOME, Ore. - State police want to talk to anyone who witnessed a crash or observed the behavior of the drivers prior to the crash Sunday afternoon on Highway 20 east of Sweet Home.

The preliminary investigation found that a westbound red 2003 Kia Spectra crossed into oncoming traffic and collided nearly head on with a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, state police said.

The crash happened around 3:25 p.m.

Both drivers - a 17-year-old boy from Sweet Home in the Kia and a 53-year-old Lebanon man in the Grand Am - suffered serious injuries, police said.

A 16-year-old boy riding in the Kia escaped physical injury. A 7-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl in the Grand Am suffered minor injuries, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

"OSP is requesting anyone who witnessed the crash or driving behavior contributing to the crash to contact Senior Trooper Oxenrider or Senior Trooper Youngblood at (541) 967-2026," state police said in a statement.
