Sheriff: Teen seriously injured in crash east of Salem

SALEM, Ore. - A car collided with a pickup truck east of town on Wednesday morning, seriously injuring a 17-year-old female driver, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies arrived at the scene at 10:30 a.m. on Cordon Road NE near 55th Avenue NE.

They found two heavily damaged vehicles blocking the road, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators are working to determine which vehicle crossed the centerline.

The crash sent the teenage driver of a green Honda Accord to Salem Hospital with serious injuries. Her name is not yet available.

The driver of a Chevrolet pickup, identified as 79-year-old Don Etzel of Turner, Oregon, was take to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
