Sheriff: Motorcyclist killed in collision with Prius on rural Oregon road

TANGENT, Ore. - A 22-year-old Albany woman died when her motorcycle collided with a car at a rural intersection Monday afternoon.

Witnesses told deputies that the driver of the car "did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign at the intersection."

The crash happened around 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of Seven Mile Lane and Tangent Drive.

The investigation found that Sarah Danielle Watson, 22, of Albany was northbound on Seven Mile Lane on a 2006 Yamaha XV2 motorcycle.

That's when Miranda Rebecca Carnes, 19, of Tangent approached the intersection eastbound on Tangent Drive in a red 2007 Prius.

"Witnesses told deputies that Carnes did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign at the intersection," Linn County Undersheriff Jim Yon said in a statement. "Carnes continued east through the intersection hitting the motorcycle."

Watson died at the scene.

Carnes was not physically injured.

"It does not appear that speed or alcohol was a contributing factor," Yon reported. "This is an ongoing investigation and will later be reviewed by the Linn County District Attorney’s Office."

The crash response and investigation closed the intersection for 3 hours.
