Police: Under influence of marijuana, taxi driver rear-ended undercover detective's car

EUGENE, Ore. - A taxi driver on his way to work faces charges of assault and DUII after rear-ending an undercover detective's car in heavy morning traffic Thursday, Eugene Police said.

The detective was treated and released at a local emergency room.

Police booked James Blair Garner, 26, on charges of Assault in the Third Degree and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. He was also cited for Following Too Closely.

The crash happened on I-105 westbound around 7:50 a.m.

Police say Garner was on his way to work at a local taxi company when he hit a car from behind.

The car happened to be an undercover police car driven by a Eugene Police detective.

"Subsequent investigation indicated he was impaired by controlled substances that included Marijuana," Eugene Police said.
