Police: Shoplifting suspects crash on Hwy 217 while trying to escape officers

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Two shoplifting suspects crashed on Highway 217 on Thursday afternoon while trying to get away from officers, Beaverton Police said.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. near the Denny Road intersection.

Officials said the theft suspects suffered some minor injuries in the crash. No word on injuries to others involved.

According to police, the shoplifters stole items from a Beaverton K-Mart store. Police tried to stop the suspects, however they called off the pursuit for safety reasons.

A short time later a Tigard Police officer noticed an erratic driver on Hwy 217 southbound. The officer turned on their lights to pull the car over and the driver crashed, rolling the vehicle.

The suspects will be booked into jail after receiving medical treatment.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash, Beaverton Police said.

One lane of traffic is getting by the collision, the Oregon Department of Transportation is asking drivers to avoid the area if at all possible.
