SALEM, Ore. – A semi-truck driver struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 5 Tuesday night near Salem, Oregon State Police said.
State troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of the crash at 10:30 p.m. at milepost 253.
After investigating, police say Ted Satter, 49, of Dallas had parked his Chevy Aveo on the right shoulder of the highway.
Police said they don’t know why, but Satter walked into the slow lane of the interstate and was struck by a semi-truck travelling southbound. It was towing two tanker trailers.
Satter was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the Freightliner, Andrew Ruzanski, 38, of Albany, was not injured.
ODOT closed one lane of I-5 southbound for four hours while police investigated.
Salem Fire, Dallas Police Department and the Marion County Medical Examiner also assisted police.
