OAKRIDGE, Ore. - A bicyclist died after being hit by a car on Highway 58 in Oakridge on Sunday night.
State police identified the deceased as John Carter Redmond, 53, of Oakridge.
The crash happened at 9:38 p.m. just as the highway enters Oakridge.
Oregon State Police say a bicyclist crossed the road from north to south, crossing in the path of an eastbound 1984 Pontiac Fiero driven by a 57-year-old Westfir man.
The car hit the bicyclist, according to police.
The rider was not wearing a helmet and did not have any lights on the bike, police said.
The bicyclist suffered major injuries. Medics took him to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, where he died shortly after arrival, police said.
The crash investigation closed an eastbound lane of traffic for four hours.
The investigation is ongoing.
