Motorcyclist dead after colliding with pickup near Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore. - A Philomath man died when a pickup truck made a left turn in front of his motorcycle Monday afternoon, the Benton County Sheriff's Office said.

Douglas Alan Penix was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson westbound on Highway 20 around 2:44 p.m. when an oncoming 1993 Chevrolet C15 pickup truck made a left turn at Conifer Boulevard, according to the sheriff's office.

The motorcycle hit the right front of the pickup, the sheriff's office said.

Penix died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup - Elizabeth May Watson of Lebanon - was not injured.

ODOT detoured traffic around the crash scene for 3 hours while deputies conducted an investigation.

CORVALLIS, Ore. - A serious crash involving a motorcycle closed Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis on Monday afternoon.

Oregon DOT said police are conducting an accident reconstruction.

There is no word yet on the condition of the motorcyclist or anyone else involved.

Details about the cause of the crash are not yet available.

"Traffic is being detoured around the closure using NE Conifer Blvd," ODOT said in a statement. "However, it is difficult for large trucks and they are being encouraged to avoid the area or use an alternative route. Expect delays."
