NEWPORT, Ore. - A Newport man died when his pickup went off the road, struck a guard rail and went airborne, striking a tree and ejecting the driver, Oregon State Police said.

The driver - identified as Andrew Beauchamp, 33, of Newport - died at the scene, police said.

Beauchamp was westbound on Highway 20 when the 2005 Nissan Titan pickup he was driving crashed, police said.

The crash happened at milepost 10 near Pioneer Trail, east of Newport.

The crash investigation briefly closed the entire highway. The westbound lane remained closed for several hours.

The investigation is ongoing. Police suspect speed might be a contributing factor in the crash. Investigators also suspect the driver was not wearing a safety belt, police said.
