WHITE CITY, Ore. – State police identified the motorcycle rider who died Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Highway 140 east of White City.

Michael Millette, 69, of Grants Pass was riding his Harley Davidson east on the highway with his wife, 66-year-old Virginia Millette.

Crash investigators said Millette didn’t realize that traffic had stopped on the highway for a vehicle that was making a turn. State troopers say he “laid the motorcycle down” and slid across the westbound lane, striking the guardrail.

Michael Millette was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Virginia Millette was taken to the Rogue Regional Medical Center; she is listed in critical condition.

The highway was closed for several hours after the crash for an investigation.
