UKIAH, Ore. - An Oregon man died after his truck crashed off a steep cliff and landed upside down in a river some 400 feet below, Oregon State Police said.

Troopers and other emergency personnel reponsded to the scene on Texas Bar Road in the Umatilla National Forest around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

They found a 2009 Ford F150 on its top in the North Fork John Day River.

A water rescue team from Grant County found the driver - identified as 53-year-old Rany Jones - dead inside the truck.

Investigators believe the crash happened Thursday morning. The preliminary investigation suggests Jones was westbound when his pickup left the road.

The truck went up to 400 feet down the steep embankment and came to rest in the river.

State police, the Grant County Sheriff's Office, firefighters from Long Creek and ambulance service from John Day responded to the crash.
