YONCALLA, Ore. - A commercial truck crashed Tuesday, killing the driver and closing the southbound on and off ramps to Interstate 5 at the Elkhead/Scotts Valley Exit 154.
The crash occurred Tuesday morning on Interstate 5 near Rice Hill around 11:20 a.m. when Oregon State Police troopers and emergency medical responders were called out.
Police say a 1999 Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer loaded with lumber was southbound and for unknown reasons departed the roadway and onto the 154 Exit.
The truck continued south through the grass median and came back onto the 154 on ramp before leaving and impacting the dirt embankment on the west side of the freeway.
The truck and trailer ultimately came to an uncontrolled rest partially blocking the 154 on ramp, police said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver's name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Troopers are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
The driver was wearing safety restraints at the time of crash, police said.
The 154 southbound exit and on ramp were closed for the duration of the investigation.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon Department of Transportation and North Douglas Fire and EMS.
