UMATILLA, Ore. - A 12-year-old boy died when the van he was in went off an Oregon highway and overturned in the median Tuesday evening.

The crash happened at 7:15 p.m. on Interstate 82, just north of where the highway leaves Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon.

Oregon State Police said a Mazda MPV driven by Raymond Ramone Dick Shippentower, 32, of Pendleton left the westbound lanes and "veered off the road and rolled over in the median."

The boy died at the scene. The driver and two other passengers - a 3-year-old girl and 38-year-old Christina Marie Leyva of Pendleton - suffered minor injuries, police said.

"Wind and rain are being considered as contributing factors of the crash," police said.

The crash response and investigation limited the interstate to one lane for 3 1/2 hours.
