Tee It Up: Bunker shot

Remember: When you’re in the bunker, the club can’t touch the sand or it’s a penalty stroke. (NBC 16 photo)

Justin Darnell and Allie are playing in the sand in Wednesday’s segment of “Tee It Up.”

Hole number 3 at the Springfield Country Club has a very large bunker right next to the green. It’s very easy to get into and can be difficult to get out.

Justin gives us some tips on how to get out of the bunker safely without tacking on extra strokes.

We are about 30 yards out from the hole.

Your feet must be open to the target. If you’re right handed, your feet will be aimed more towards the left.

Instead of playing the club like normal, open up the club face so the grooves are aiming towards the hole.

Remember: When you’re in the bunker, the club can’t touch the sand or it’s a penalty stroke.

Make a full swing and hopefully your ball lands close to the hole like Justin’s shot.
