Future Olympians: Junction City basketball player puts in long hours at practice

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. - In his senior season, Junction City’s Matthew Penn is known for filling the stat sheet.

As a junior, Penn says he was a capable player but yearned to elevate his game to the next level.

He worked on his game every day after he clocked off at his part-time job this summer.

“Right at 2 p.m. I would hit up my best friend,” Penn said. “Then we would head to Willamalane in Springfield and just play from 3 until maybe 8 or 9 p.m.”

Penn now leads his team in scoring, as his Tigers look to make a late push to postseason play.
