Portland MMA fighter has gear stolen before fight
PORTLAND, Ore. —
A local professional mixed martial artist says his customized gear and personal information was taken out of his car in Southeast Portland the day before his big fight.
Cris ‘Sunshine’ Williams moved to Portland two years ago to train.
“Friday morning my car got broken into, right in front of my house and they stole my fight bag,” he said.
He had a lot of important things for his fighting career inside the bag - thousands of dollars in sponsor checks, identification cards, and MMA gear specially tailored for Williams.
“My cup was in there, my mouth piece, very personal items for my fight. I need groin protection. I need a mouth piece,” he said.
Williams filed a police report. While he waits for answers, Williams' sponsor, Oregon’s Best Realty, did some digging on the case.
The company told KATU News that its check was cashed at Clackamas Federal Credit Union in Happy Valley the same day the bag went missing.
“Now that I have spent all the money to replace everything, and I've had more time to sit on it, I'm pretty pissed off,” Williams said.
He went to social media about the theft. His post has gone viral through the MMA community (fair warning - explicit language).
“I have never felt uncomfortable like I have now, to be honest with you,” he adds.
Williams said he just wants his stuff back, and he wants the person that took it to get help.
