EUGENE, Ore. - The second round of the OSAA high school playoffs got underway on Friday, and Sheldon, Churchill and Cottage Grove all had marquee match-ups with their seasons on the line.

Central Catholic 28, Sheldon 24:

Sheldon's postseason run started off with a bang, beating Beaverton by 41 points in the first round, but without their starting quarterback Michael Johnson Jr., they were unable to outlast a Central Catholic team that came into the game riding a 6-game winning streak.

The Irish jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the game, but the Rams were able to outscore the Irish 28-7 over the final three quarters to end Sheldon's season short of the 6A quarterfinals.

Churchill 24, Crescent Valley 22:

The Lancers came off an undefeated regular season, but lost star wide receiver Myles Green-Richards to injury before this quarterfinals game vs. Crescent Valley.

Regardless, the Lancers were able to get onto the board first and take a commanding 21-0 lead before the Raiders could get some offensive momentum going and make it a close game. Churchill narrowly escaped with a victory, and will now face No. 1 Mountain View next week in the semifinals.

Cottage Grove 27, Gladstone 10:

The Lions are looking for redemption after losing in the 4A championship game a year ago, and they rolled over Gladstone in the quarterfinals to get one step closer to winning it all.

Cottage Grove will face Mazama next Saturday in the semifinals.
