State police: Marcus Mariota cited for doing 80 in a 55 mph zone
VENETA, Ore. - Oregon State Police ticketed Oregon quarterback and Heisman trophy contender Marcus Mariota for going 80 in a 55 mph zone November 12.
Mariota has a December 11 court date on the ticket. He faces a $260 fine.
The traffic stop happened just before 1 a.m. on Highway 126W near Veneta, state police said.
Police have stepped up enforcement on Hwy 126 between Eugene and Florence, a stretch of road that has seen 10 fatalities this year.
There were 9 fatalities on the road combined from 2009 to 2013.
