Watch: Storm-damaged bridge demolished in Burien
BURIEN, Wash. - A decades-old bridge damaged by harsh winter storms was demolished Friday.
The Peter Western Bridge's structural integrity was undermined due to severe erosion to its support columns, city officials say.
The storms also stripped away soil from beneath the bridge. Some of the columns no longer touched the ground.
The bridge was so unstable that even pedestrians were banned from using it. The rebuilding costs will total more than $8 million, authorities said.
