Veterans helping veterans: 'I've struggled as well'
EUGENE, Ore. - Shannon Smyth served in the Air Force in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Upon his return to Eugene, he struggled with some post traumatic stress and anxiety.
He sought help for himself and now helps others struggling with the same issues he once had.
Now Smyth is a behavioral health specialist at the Eugene Mission.
He works mostly with veterans to help them in their recovery and getting back on their feet.
He sometimes sees up to 25 clients.
"The fact that I had some trouble myself, and I've struggled as well, helps me empathize with the population here," he said.
