Umpqua Valley Arts Association hosts 7th Annual Plein Air Painting Event

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Roseburg’s Umpqua Valley Arts Association will once again host Umpqua Plein Air, a four day event featuring artists from throughout the western U. S. capturing the landscapes of Douglas County.

The event begins on Wednesday, September 13, with the first Paint Out session in Downtown Roseburg.

Children under 18 are invited to join the adult artists and compete for prizes of their own.

The Adult Artist Paint Out takes place from 2 p.m. to Dusk., with the kids quick draw starting at 2 p.m. and running until 4:30 p.m.

Children can visit Gallery Northwest on Jackson Street, check in at 2 p.m. and begin drawing. Materials will be provided.

The event continues on Thursday and Friday, September 14 and 15. The artists start the day bright and early with paint-outs along the North Umpqua River and at Doc Bailey’s farm.

Umpqua Plein Air culminates with a reception on Saturday afternoon, September 16th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Arts Center. At least one entry per participant will be on display throughout the building, with up to 40 works of art featured in the Hallie Brown Ford Gallery. Cash prizes will be awarded at 3:15 p.m. to the top works, including the kids’ Quick Draw. Nationally renowned artist Scott Gellatly will be the adjudicator for the adult submissions..

The exhibit continues through October 27, 2017 during UVAA’s regular hours, Tuesday -Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
