People in Susan Creek area along Hwy 138E told to get ready to evacuate due to fires

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Residents in the Susan Creek area have been told to get ready to evacuate due to one of the Umpqua North Complex of wildfires burning in eastern Douglas County.

The sheriff's office issued a Level 1 "Ready" evacaution notice Friday at 1 p.m. for Highway 138E from milepost 28 to the public land boundary due to increased fire danger.

That includes the Susan Creek residential area and the Susan Creek Campground.

Evacuation notices are ranked on a scale of Level 1 (Ready), Level 2 (Set) and Level 3 (GO!).

"Residents should be aware of the danger that exists in their area, monitor emergency services websites and local media outlets for information," the sheriff's office said of the Level 1 evacuation notice for the Susan Creek area. "This is the time for preparation and precautionary movement of persons with special needs, mobile property and (under certain circumstances) pets and livestock. If conditions worsen, emergency services personnel may contact you via an emergency notification system."

A Level 3 GO! evacuation notice remained in effect Friday for the Dry Creek area.
