Update: Grants Pass Department of Public Safety have identified the victim as Ronald Dorah.

"He was polite and a gentleman," Ila Watson said. "He just didn't have a place."

Watson says Dorah was her friend.

"He inspires my grandchildren by giving them bottles and cans so we can go cash them in," Watson said.

Dorah was homeless. Watson, her daughter and her grandchildren are too. Watson says the Dorah and many other transients frequent the Four Seasons Car Wash. Watson says she's even asked them to move elsewhere.

"[I've told them to] Not hanging out over here during the day time, you know, because it was all junkie and stuff," Watson said. "They were all out here cleaning it up."

Businesses nearby the self-service car wash say transients hang out there all the time. Some employees say the transients don't bother anyone, but others say they don't want the transients around.

Grants Pass Police say they've run into the victim a time or two before.

"I can say that we have had numerous interactions with this individual in law enforcement arenas," Lt. Todd Moran said.

Watson says the transient community needs a space to feel safe. Before Tuesday night, she thought the car wash was at least safe, even though the transients get kicked out regularly.

"I got chills on my arms right now," Watson said. "It could happen to any of us, you know? We're out here unprotected and any time we go somewhere, we get chased away by the police."

Watson says she and many other homeless people have jobs, but one salary does not cut it for a family of four. She hopes this death can help change the way people see, or not see, the transient community.
