Head Start expands hours in Port Orford; Bandon, Coquille to follow
PORT ORFORD, Ore. - Port Orford Head Start has extended its hours as part of a pilot program.
Instead of 12:15 p.m., students are now released at 2:45 p.m.
"Research is starting to be done, and it's showing that children who have expanded school days do better when they enter kindergarten and go on into 1st and 2nd grade," said Judy Miles with Head Start.
With the success of the program in Port Orford, they've received a grant to expand the longer hours to Bandon and Coquille locations.
