BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A Bellingham preschool teacher was arrested Thursday and booked into jail for investigation of child molestation, rape, incest, rape of a child and tampering with a witness, according to Bellingham Police.

According to court documents, the man is being investigated for molesting a family member off and on for more than a decade.

The suspected crimes came to light after the man had a personal crisis in early April and wrote a note admitting to the crimes, court documents state.

The man was hired in 2014 as a paraeducator with Bellingham Public Schools and began teaching part-time in the preschool program at Roosevelt Elementary School in January, according to Jackie Brawley with the school district.

Based on the information the school district has, Brawley said the investigation does not involve any Bellingham students.

"The case is lengthy, sensitive and complex," Bellingham Police told KOMO News. "There were no indications thus far in the investigation that there were victims outside of the family."

Brawley said that the man was not working this week before his arrest. It is unclear why he was not at work.

The man appeared in court Friday afternoon but has not yet been charged. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
