Convicted felon Janet Greenwald was sentenced Monday by Hancock County Judge Jason Cuomo for shooting a dog in the head with an arrow.

Greenwald will serve 1-5 years on house arrest, she must also make restitution to the dog’s owners, and under West Virginia law, she can't live with animals.

Greenwald currently lives on a farm so Cuomo gave her a month to find a new place to live. Before the sentence was handed down, Greenwald had the opportunity to address the court. During that time, she apologized directly to the dog’s owners.

"I simply want to apologize for my actions, and I'm sorry for hurting your dog, and I wish I could take it back, but I did try to have some sort of communication or understanding of the situation and it did get out of hand on my part, and I'm sorry for that and if I could take it back I would," Greenwald said.
