Idaho State trooper escapes injury after nasty crash: 'I see a semi flying toward me'
LEWISTON, Idaho (KBOI) —
An Idaho State trooper had an extremely close call investigating a crash in northern Idaho.
Trooper Braden Hammond was on Highway 95 outside Culdesac investigating a crash on Monday. The highway was closed in both directions so the tow truck driver could pull a truck out of a ditch.
And then it happened.
"I was walking away from my vehicle and I heard braking -- I look back and I see a semi flying toward me," Hammond said. "The semi was airborne. It ended up hitting my patrol car that's behind (me) and then they ended up into the ditch here."
Miraculously, no one in the crash was hurt. The cause is under investigation.
In the previous crash, troopers say a 15-year-old from Kooskia drifted off the right side of Highway 95 and hit a tree. He and his passenger were taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
