5 teenagers dead after pickup crashes, falls off bridge in Okla.
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Okla. (KTUL) - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says five people are dead after a crash near Tahlequah.
A 2006 Chevrolet Colorado was driving southbound on Welling Road a few miles southeast of Tahlequah around 10:40 p.m. Sunday when it left the roadway and struck a guardrail, according to OHP. The pickup then came back onto the roadway, drove through a railing on the left and off a bridge.
OHP says the truck fell about 35 feet on its top into the river and fully submerged in the water.
The driver, 18-year-old Donovan Caldwell of Muskogee, and all four passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. OHP has identified the passengers as 18-year-old Jessica Swartwout, 19-year-old Drake Wells, 18-year-old Lily Murphy and 18-year-old Rhianna Seely.
Troopers are still investigating what caused the crash.
