'We want to welcome anyone who's willing to help and make sure these traditions continue.'
EUGENE, Ore. - The Asian Celebration is only a few weeks away, and the Japanese-American Association is making a special treat for the big event.
Dozens of people gathered at the Many Nations Long House in Eugene to make hundreds of pink and green Daifuku Mochi.
The traditional Japanese treat is made with rice flour and bean paste, and a board member of the Japanese American Association says it's important to uphold traditions like they did on Saturday.
"We want to be able to share these events with the community every year, so we want to welcome anyone who is willing to help and make sure these traditions continue," said Lois Yoshishige.
The Mochi will be sold at the annual Asian Celebration at the Lane Events Center on February 17th and 18th. Proceeds will help fund the events put on by the Japanese American Association of Lane County.
