Volunteers set up barbecue at Veterans of Foreign Wars Center in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Barbecuing is a Fourth of July favorite for many, but for others it's a way to give back to those who have served our country.
On Saturday, the VFW center held a chicken barbecue in Springfield.
It's one of three barbecues the VFW holds every year.
100% of Saturday's proceeds go towards several veteran services in Lane County.
One organizer said it's important veterans know that they have not been forgotten.
"We go out and help the community as well," VFW master chef Floyd Oneill said. "We go out and do things with that money and help the community out, also helping out disabled vets, the homes, the places we gotta go to."
The barbecue continues Sunday in Springfield at the VFW center on Main Street.
It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
