Police: Man with axe taken into custody near two Eugene schools
EUGENE, Ore. - Police took a man with an axe into custody and transported him to the hospital after a report of an armed subject in South Eugene.
The police activitiy placed South Eugene High School and Roosevelt Middle School on lockout.
Traffic was rerouted in the area of 24th and 19th Avenue during the incident.
Eugene Police said the man is being held on a non-criminal hold.
The situation started at 10:41 a.m. with a report of an armed subject at E. 25th Avenue.
"Police located the described subject near First Place Family Shelter, and observed him in possession of an axe," police said. "The subject was contacted by police and taken into custody on a non criminal hold and transported to the hospital."
EUGENE, Ore. - Police at the University of Oregon urged the public to avoid the area of 24th Avenue and Amazon Parkway due to a report of law enforcement activity in the area.
About 11 minutes later, UOPD gave the all clear.
