Town hall discusses topics ranging from tuition to climate change
EUGENE, Ore. – A local town hall drew discussion from audience members at the University of Oregon Saturday.
Representative Phil Barnhart and Senator Lee Beyer spoke at the hour-long session. They talked about climate change and the recent tuition hike at the University of Oregon.
Barnhart said he’s noticed an increased interest in the political process since President Donald Trump took office.
One audience member who just graduated from the University of Oregon said a solid plan should be put in place to combat rising tuition prices.
“He said, 'It’s ridiculous that we have a 10 percent increase in tuition.' What are you doing about it? What are we doing right now to make sure we don't have students that are hungry, that are homeless, or eventually going to be cut out on school entirely?” said Nathan Stevens, a member of Young Democratic Socialists.
Stevens said he thinks the recent tuition increase should have been discussed more at Saturday’s meeting. Overall, he was pleased Barnhart and Beyer held the town hall.
