Springfield Police catch 2 suspects following tips from public
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Thanks to some help from the public, the Springfield Police have confirmed that two wanted suspects are now in custody.
Misty Bayer and Steven Stone were arrested as a direct result of citizen tips after watching the NBC 16 newscast.
Police say Stone was arrested on Wednesday night at the Super 8 motel in Creswell for possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding and interfering with an officer, among other charges.
Bayer was said to be found in Veneta, and is facing charges including possession of methamphetamine, eluding and assaulting a police office.
"I've been in law enforcement for 30 years, and I've worked in different environments where I think the support is always there in every community," said Lt. Scott McKee. "But in some communities, you feel that majority of support more than others, and certainly in Springfield you just feel that."
Lieutenant McKee's advice to those facing trouble with the law is to think before you run. He says running from the law will only make matters worse, and fugitives will eventually be caught.
