SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A Springfield duplex was badly damaged by a fire Sunday morning, Eugene Springfield Fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to multiple calls for a house fire at 4950 Forsythia Street around 10 a.m.

When they arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming from the second floor of the structure.

Officials said all residents were out of the duplex by the time they arrived on scene.

About 20 personnel managed to control the fire within 20 minutes.

Eugene Springfield Fire said one side of the duplex is uninhabitable, but residents in the other side of the duplex will still be able to live there. They said each unit housed a couple.

According to the American Red Cross, the fire displaced two adults and two pets.

The Red Cross is helping address the residents' immediate needs, including temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits with toiletry items, and information about recovery services.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
