Spring weather means time for Spring cleaning
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Summer is right around the corner, so on Saturday some Springfield residents wrapped up their Spring cleaning.
It’s all a part of the 30th annual Spring Clean Up, hosted by the City of Springfield.
Springfield residents brought a variety of large, unwanted items to South B St., such as, old mattresses and lawn chairs.
“Some of our partnerships are with St. Vincent de Paul's, as well as Habitat for Humanity, and so they'll go through and pick out the things that are salvageable, and then it goes through a line to where we have a couple of bulldozers that go ahead and load the common trash and put them into bins,” Tony Hart, with the City of Springfield, says.
The City of Springfield says its goal is to keep these items from going into the landfill.
Organizers say 85 percent of the materials collected from residents last year were either reused or recycled.
