Sheriff: Deputies used tire spikes to stop driver fleeing in pickup
ROSEBURG, Ore. - An intoxicated driver led deputies on a chase from Rosebrug to Winston and onto back roads before law enforcement spiked the tires of the suspect's pickup truck, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.
Then the suspect took off on foot.
Deputies took Amy Marie Fenton, 22, of Roseburg into custody. Fenton was jailed on charges of Attempting to Elude Police - Vehicle, Attempting to Elude Police - Foot, Reckless Driving, DUII - Controlled Substance.
The situation started at 1:06 a.m. Sunday when a deputy tried to stop a 1994 GMC Sierra pickup for a traffic violation on SE Stephens Street in Roseburg.
"The driver failed to stop and continued on southbound on Highway 99 South. The driver then turned west on to Highway 42 toward Winston," the sheriff's office said. "The driver led deputies onto Lookingglass Road and eventually onto Happy Valley Road. A deputy successfully spiked the tires of the fleeing vehicle, which ended the vehicle pursuit a short distance later."
The sheriff says Fenton ran on foot. Deputies caught up with her and took her into custody.
