LONG BEACH, Calif. - A man shot by police after he threatened to blow up a federal building was driving a van with Oregon license plates, CBS Los Angeles reports.

The suspect later died at a local hospital.

Long Beach Police have not identified the suspect.

CBSLA reports the van is registered to a man named Donald McFarland, and that McFarland has a criminal history in both Oregon and Washington.

The situation started Wednesday when a woman called 911 to report her husband was armed and had threatened to blow up the federal building, CBSLA reports.

KABC reports the man could be seen holding what appeared to be a firearm. Police fired at him and took him into custody with the help of a K9.

A search of the van turned up no explosives, KABC reports.
