Police: Thief stole car left idling near UO, hit driver; suspect now in custody

EUGENE, Ore. - A woman jumped in a car that was left running near Matthew Knight Arena and sped off, hitting the driver of the car in the process, Eugene Police said.
The victim's identity and condition are not yet known.
Police said he was hit by his own Nissan Sentra while attempting to stop the suspect from driving away.
The situation started in 1800 block of Franklin Boulevard at 11:15 a.m.
Police said a male driver briefly got out of his car and left it running.
The suspect - identified as Ashley Fleming, 25 - got in the car and sped away, hitting victim as she drove, police said.
Officers caught up to Fleming at Riva's Taco Shop on Highway 99 (595 Highway 99).
"Fleming initially pulled into a parking lot but then attempted to flee in the vehicle," police said in a report. "Officers used a patrol car to forcibly stop the vehicle prior to it reentering the busy roadway."
Officers arrested Fleming on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Elude by Vehicle and unrelated warrants.
Additional charges are pending, police said.
