EUGENE, Ore. - Two teenage boys discharged a fire extinguisher, broke windows and damaged property at a public library branch early Monday morning, Eugene Police said.

The boys are also suspects in the breaking of windows and glass doors on Coburg and Willakenzie roads, police said.

The situation started just after midnight with a report of "a possibly burglary in progress at the Sheldon Branch Library (...) in which a fire extinguisher was discharged, windows broken, and property damaged," according to a police report.

The library was closed Monday due to the damage.

Library staff hope to be back open by Thursday.

Police received a subsequent report of a window broken out at McDonald's, 1580 Coburg Rd, by two boys, ages 14 and 15.

Police also got a report of broken glass doors at another Coburg Road location. Officers later found a window broken out at Aesthetic Surgical Arts, 2550 Willakenzie Road.

Officers located the teens near Sheldon High School. Police took the boys into custody in a field north of the school.

The boys were taken into custody on charges of Burglary 2 and Criminal Mischief 1 and 2.

Sheldon High School and the surrounding area suffered multiple acts of vandalism this summer, including fires under investigation as possible arsons.

Police have not said whether the boys arrested Monday are suspects in any of those crimes.
