Police say man damaged patrol vehicle while taking selfies

EUGENE, Ore. – Eugene police say a man was reportedly standing on top of and stomping on a patrol vehicle while taking selfies Friday morning. Police say he caused significant scratches and a dent to the vehicle.

The Eugene Police Department said Eugene Public Library security contacted an officer about the incident at 11:25 a.m. Friday.

Security reported the man standing on top of an EPD Chevy Caprice, stomping and taking selfies.

Another bystander also reported the incident, and a sergeant detained the suspect, Julian Gerard Mendez, 24, of Eugene.

The patrol car was parked at 1062 Charnelton Street, police said.

After investigating, police charged Mendez with criminal mischief in the first degree and disorderly conduct in the second degree.
